• A pastiche of Verne's Mysterious Island and Atwood's Handmaid's Tale that has intrepid female students and faculty escaping from a Seattle/Vancouver university in a zeppelin during an incursion by right-wing, mysogynistic Oregonian separatists. The zeppelin crashlands on an uninhabited Pacific island. The derry-doing adventurers build a technological civilization, going from forges to rocketry to nanotech, and liberate the mainland.

• A naturalistic expedition to the cloudy, wet jungles of Venus that we know have never existed, but that were a classic element in the science fiction of the 1920s and 1930s. It didactically examines parallel evolution, biological arms races, natural selection, and competition between species. Plot and characterization are secondary concerns.
